Everyone has unwanted body hair on their body; and everyone removes this hair using various options like shaving, plucking and waxing their hair or by using depilatory creams.

However recently, the popularity of laser hair removal has increased tremendously. In fact, it is one of the top five non-surgical cosmetic procedures; however, laser hair removal treatments have their share of facts and myths which are listed below.

Myth 1: Laser hair removal is painful.

Permanent laser hair removal is not painful; you only experience some tingling or stinging sensation during the procedure. In fact, most people who have tried the three main commercial laser hair removal methods say that waxing and electrolysis are more painful.

Myth 2: You need to spend years of treatment to get rid of unwanted hair.

The fact is that you need only 4-5 treatments to get rid of 95% of unwanted hair. You may have to repeat treatments every 6-8 weeks, wherein you can complete your treatment in 6 months’ time.

Myth3: Laser hair removal treatments don’t work on dark skin.

This is a thing of the past. Today new equipment has been developed that can remove skin from the darkest skin. However just ensure that the person performing the treatment on you uses the latest equipment available.

Myth 4: Laser hair removal is not safe.

As the laser used in permanent laser hair removal is attracted to the hair pigment, it only targets the hair follicle and shaft. Surrounding skin and tissue is unharmed and safe from the laser. With millions of people having used laser hair removal to remove unwanted hair, it proves that the procedure has no long term effects and is quite safe.

Myth 5: Laser hair removal is expensive.

Permanent laser hair removal is expensive when compared to other hair removal methods. However remember that within a few visits, you can experience permanent hair removal.

On the contrary, if you opt for waxing your legs for only say $35 per visit, you will have to do this every 1 ½ months for the rest of your life. In the long run, permanent laser hair removal proves to be cheaper for achieving permanent hair removal.

With all these myths dispelled, it is proven that laser hair removal is a fast, practically pain free and a cost-effective option for permanent hair removal.
