Wrinkles are all part of the normal aging process which forms when the skin grows dry, thin and less elastic with time. Even excessive UV exposure, poor nutrition, skin disorders, repeated facial movements and smoking can contribute to deep wrinkling. Whatever the cause for wrinkles may be, there are various best wrinkle treatments worth trying out to get rid of your wrinkles.

Over the counter wrinkle creams have retinol, kinetin and antioxidants that help improve the appearance of wrinkles when used continuously for a long time. However as these creams are not regulated by the FDA, there is no actual guarantee on its effectiveness. Moreover, they are available by prescription, and may cause burning, itching, sun sensitivity and dryness.

Skin resurfacing and chemical peels

Skin resurfacing procedures are one of the best wrinkle treatments available. In dermabrasion and microdermabrasion, a rotating brush removes the top skin layer to reduce wrinkles and let new skin grow.

Chemical peels use acids of different strengths to burn off the top skin layer to treat different degrees of wrinkling. In laser skin resurfacing, a heated light ray destroys the outer skin layer to stimulate the growth of collagen fibers to help improve skin firmness. Though an effective wrinkle treatment option, recovery after laser skin resurfacing takes a few months.

Filler injections and surgery

Collagen or filler injections help fill in wrinkles to improve your appearance. These injections are best for treating deep wrinkles with follow up treatments. However there are some side effects associated with this procedure like temporary redness, swelling at the injection site and bruising.

Botox injections when injected into specific muscles block signals and make the muscles contract. This tightens the skin and gives a smoother appearance to wrinkles in between eyebrows and the forehead. It also helps prevent new wrinkles from occurring when the muscles are immobilized. However the effects are not permanent; so you need to repeat Botox injections once every few months.

Surgery like facelift is used to remove wrinkles if all other wrinkle removal options fail in wrinkle reduction. The surgery removes excess fat and skin from the neck and lower face region while tightening connective tissue to smoothen skin and remove wrinkles. While results last for up to 10 years, recovery takes a few weeks. Moreover, there is the possibility of suffering from risks like infection, blood clots, skin loss and scarring.
