Most people are familiar with the term “liposuction.” This is a procedure that removes unwanted excess fat to contour the body and smooth out irregular shapes. However, liposuction has come a long way in recent years. There are now several methods for performing this procedure. Consider the difference between traditional liposuction and relatively new treatments called BodyTite and FaceTite.
How Does Traditional Liposuction Work?
The goal of liposuction is to target fat deposits located under the skin. During a traditional operation, a cosmetic surgeon makes a small incision and inserts a hollow, stainless steel tube called a cannula under the skin. The doctor pushes the tube around to break up the fatty tissue, which is then suctioned out of the body using a vacuum pump or syringe.
For most patients, the recovery time is remarkably short, thanks to the use of local anesthetic and blood vessel-constricting drugs that reduce bleeding, bruising and swelling. Still, you’ll need to:
- Have someone drive you home after the procedure.
- Rest and drink lots of fluids for a few days.
- Take pain medication and wear compression bandages as prescribed to reduce pain and swelling.
- Avoid strenuous activities for several days.
- Avoid smoking.
How Does BodyTite Liposuction Work?
BodyTite is a less invasive form of body contouring that uses Radio-Frequency Assisted Liposuction (RFAL) to melt fat cells. As with traditional liposuction, the procedure begins by inserting a cannula beneath the skin. It also involves placing an electrode on the skin to create a thermal energy field and concentrate heat into the treatment area. The surgeon adjusts the temperature to liquefy fatty tissue, making it easier to suction out fat through the cannula.
Not only does BodyTite provide an effective fat-reduction solution, but the radio frequency waves also stimulate the production of collagen beneath the skin, smoothing out the treatment area for up to 40 percent firmer, more toned results compared to traditional liposuction. Patients also report reduced bruising and swelling with this less invasive liposuction option, and they enjoy a shorter recovery period of just one to two days.
How Does FaceTite Facial Contouring Work?
FaceTite is an incision-less alternative to the traditional facelift. Like BodyTite, it uses radio frequency waves to target fatty tissue on the face and neck. This is much less invasive than the conventional method of cutting and pulling back loose skin.
Because the surgeon makes no cuts, there are no scars and no need to wear bandages for several days. You can return home right away, and you only need to wear compression garments for a day or two. Results are visible almost immediately with ongoing improvement for six to 12 months following treatment.
