Liposuction is a surgical procedure to remove excess body fat between and the skin and muscles for body contour improvement. There are several variations, like Houston BodyTite operations, and so on. After the surgical process, the patient should take proper aftercare for proper recovery. The first 24-48 hours after surgery are crucial, requiring assistance as the patient becomes drowsy and weak.

Coming from the bed for the first few times after a liposuction is not easy yet is important to take frequent walks and move your legs and ankles. The exercise ensures that water does not accumulate on the legs causing swelling. It is important to keep the legs elevated for the first 2-3 days as crossing the legs can increase the risk of blood clots. Take deep breaths frequently to clear the lungs and a light diet after the surgery. Muscle soreness after the surgery is common and treated with pain medication every 3-4 hours for the first three days after surgery. Avoid alcohol while taking medication as well as any strenuous work for three weeks after surgery.

You need assistance from a nurse or someone close to help dress the wound and check its healing. During this time, ensure maximum body hygiene. When showering runs soap and water over the wound without scrubbing it. Gently dry the area with a clean, disinfected towel. Avoid still water for at least two weeks this includes bathtubs, swimming pools, Jacuzzi’s and lakes. Notice that they can increase infection, something that you want to avoid at all costs. Keep monitoring the incision for danger signs like increased swelling, itchiness, redness or excess pus and foul smell. Report such signs to your doctor immediately for treatment.

After 3-4 weeks, massage therapy can be beneficial if done 2-3 times per week. It allows lymph drainage and enhanced resolution of the swollen areas. Liposuction has become a swift recovery process with proper aftercare.
