Liposuction is a last resort in the battle against the bulge. People who have tried various diets and exercise routines but still can’t get rid of some stubborn abdominal inches resort to this procedure to have this fat removed.

When compared to other plastic surgery procedures, liposuction is not that invasive, but it still requires a short recovery period. However, to ensure your recovery period after a session is quick, you have to carefully and specifically follow your doctor’s instructions.

The choice of anesthesia plays a major role
While some liposuction procedures are performed under general anesthesia, some are performed under local anesthesia. It is based on whether you were put under general or local anesthesia that your stay in the surgical facility is decided. Generally, if you were put under general anesthesia, you will have to stay so that your doctor can monitor your vital signs for any reactions to the anesthetic.

Your doctor may suggest wearing pressure garments or bandages on the surgical site to help drain out excess fluids and to prevent swelling. These bandages need to be on for two days, after which they can be removed for showering.

While there may be some swelling and bruising for some weeks, most of the discomfort associated the plastic surgery procedure disappears in a few days time. However if there is some prolonged swelling or fever, you have to report these symptoms to your doctor immediately as it may indicate an infection.

Do not buy new clothes immediately
You have to remember that although you may look smaller almost immediately after your liposuction procedure, do not buy any new clothes immediately. Its better to wait for a few weeks as your body needs time to settle down, wherein their may be some changes as you heal.

It is possible to return to your normal activities like exercise and strenuous activities within a few weeks time. However, do not start anything before consulting with your doctor. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully, as well as these tips, and you will definitely experience better results after your liposuction session.
