Cosmetic surgeons are not all equal. You may think you have a ton of choices of surgeons in your area when looking online or in the yellow pages. However, once you start to dig a little deeper, which you should always do when it comes to choosing a surgeon, you will find that some are much more qualified than others. Trusting your instinct can go a long way and can make a huge difference in how happy you are post-surgery.
How to Narrow Down Your Choices of Cosmetic Surgeons
If you know anyone who has had cosmetic surgery before you have probably already asked them about their experience with their plastic surgeon. This is very helpful to start making a list of potential surgeons you want to use. However, if you do not know anyone it can be overwhelming at first. Reviews you find online can be useful and a good starting point for making a list of potential surgeons. Look for board-certified surgeons for the type of surgery you want to be done. This helps you know they have extra experience.
Do not randomly pick a name you have on a list to choose your board-certified cosmetic surgeon. Make an appointment for a consultation with three to five surgeons to discuss the type of cosmetic surgery procedure you are interested in. Ask to see before and after photos, learn how many patients they have performed the surgery on, the percentage of complications patients experience, the length of time they have been doing the surgery, and any other questions you want to have an answer to. A plastic surgeon that does not want to answer a question should be crossed off your list immediately. The same is applied to a surgeon you simply did not feel comfortable with when talking to them in person.
Take Your Time
Once you have met with a surgeon you can start crossing names off your list and come to a decision on which cosmetic surgeon you want to perform your surgery. Take your time and do not hesitate to consult with a surgeon multiple times if you have further questions before undergoing surgery.
